Sony Announces a Wide Angle AF Full-Frame Lens: The FE 20mm F1.8 G

The fast wide-angle lens is lightweight, designed to be moisture and dust-resistant, features a manual aperture ring and a silent autofocus operation.

Sony recently announced their widest E-mount full-frame lens, the FE 20mm F1.8 G. Among its many attributes, the lens has a manual aperture control ring which can actually be de-clicked, making it a great option for videographers and video work in general.

The lens features an assignable focus hold button and 9 circular aperture blades that can be set from F1.8 – F22, which according to Sony contributes to a creamy, smooth bokeh and natural highlights.

Freelance videographers and camera operators will be glad to know that the FE 20mm F1.8 G is compact and weighing in at 373g is light enough to be used in a variety of different gimbals when in combination with a Sony Alpha camera body.

The lens seems to have potential to deliver great performance in a compact, weather-tight body, ideal for on-the-go video crews, photographers and camera teams that need to travel light.

According to Sony, the FE 20mm F1.8 G will be available in March for $900.
