DJI Announce the Very Portable 4K Mavic Air Drone

Updated: Jun 16, 2019

A combination of the powerful Mavic Pro with the portability of the Spark, DJI sets the bar once again.

The Mavic Air is DJI's latest addition to their line of drones and not an update to the popular Mavic Pro as many were suspecting. With foldable arms and extreme portability, it promises to deliver similar image quality to its big brother. A great solution to any on-the-go videographers or small film crews.

Some of the main features include a 4K camera (100 Mbps) on top of a three axis gimbal (Spark has 2-axis). It has a 12 megapixel camera and can stich 25 photographs together to create a 32 MP sphere panorama. DJI claims the Mavic Air has a 4km range along with a 21-minute max flight time.

It supports 1080p 120 fps slow motion video and is filled with sensors in order to avoid obstacles. DJI claims the Mavic Air not only avoids objects, but also calculates a flight-plan on the go and flies around them. It comes with a dedicated and foldable remote controller with detachable control sticks which can be stored inside the actual remote.

Some other specs include a built-in 8GB storage, USB-C port, it's available in three colors (white, black, red), a new ventilation system which prevents overheating and a wider field of view (85°) compared to the Spark and Mavic Pro (81.9° and 78.8° respectively). DJI is already taking pre-orders and shipping is expected for January 28, 2018. Pricing for the Mavic Air starts at a reasonable $799. They also offer a DJI Mavic Air Fly More Combo, selling at $999.

So what do you guys think? Anyone thinking of purchasing the new Mavic Air?
