New 14-24mm F2.8 Art Lens Announced by SIGMA
Updated: Jun 16, 2019
This morning SIGMA announced their new full frame (with APS-C compatibility) 14-24mm F2.8 Art lens. Though not as wide as their 12-24mm F4 DG HSM Art, it is faster. SIGMA declared it as the “ultimate ultra-wide-angle zoom”, using the same manufacturing techniques as their super fast 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art lens, which was released last year.
Some of the features declared by SIGMA include minimal distortion (1% or less) at infinity focus, dust and splash proof construction with weather sealing, constant F2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range, and a new Front Conversion Service which enables the lens to convert to a round hood for multi-camera videography.
Photographers and videographers alike would be happy to hear that the lens is designed for 50-megapixel plus cameras, ensuring sharp images and video material by means of three FLD glass elements, three SLD glass elements, and three aspherical lens elements on an 80mm molded glass aspherical element.
SIGMA claims the lens to have minimized chromatic aberration, ghosting and flare. We will however have to wait and see how true this is once photographers and camera operators get their hands on it and we start seeing some test footage. All in all, if this lens lives up to what we’ve been told, it seems to be a great option for photographers, camera operators and video professionals alike.
