OWC Releases World’s Fastest USB-C Drive: The Envoy Pro EX
OWC, a computer hardware and online store for Mac upgrades just unveiled the Envoy Pro EX. A blazing fast USB-C Portable hard drive with double the transfer rates of traditional USB 3 drives.
The Envoy Pro EX boasts speeds of up to 980MB/s, making it a world’s first. Considering it’s moderate price point, if you’re a video shooter looking to upgrade to a faster, rugged and sleek portable drive, this could be a great option.
OWC claims the drive is 100% dustproof and has an IP67 waterproof rating, meaning it can survive up to 30 minutes under 1 meter of water (don’t test this though). The Envoy Pro EX is compatible with both USB-C and Thunderbolt 3, has an all-aluminum design, and can be used as an external USB-C recorder with certain cameras such as the BMPCC 4K.
The drive is similar in size and weight as the iPhone X, it’s Mac and PC compatible, and apparently can withstand temperatures from freezing to about 70 degrees Celsius.
