Following the announcement of the RF 50mm F1.2L USM and RF 35mm F1.8 Macro IS STM, Canon expands its RF prime lens line with the Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM.
The Canon RF 85mm f/1.2 USM has a fixed 85mm focal length with a maximum aperture of f/1.2, one of Canon’s fastest aperture autofocus for its full frame mirrorless camera series. It’s a rather big lens weighing in at 1.195kg, making it somewhat bulkier than the already large Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM (1.02kg).

The Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM seems to be mainly aimed at photographers rather than video shooters or camera operators. Canon claims that it’s an ideal lens for portraits and that it distinguishes itself by maintaining incredibly high image quality even when it’s wide open at f/1.2.
The barrel has two rings, one for focus and the other for the control ring. The lens’ ISO, AV, TV and exposure setting are programmable through this incorporated RF control ring, allowing the user to customize the lens.

The Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM employs Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) optics, which canon claims eliminates spherical aberrations. It also incorporates the same weatherproofing seal as the L-Series lenses, which avoids dust and water from entering the lens when shooting outdoors.

Specs:

The Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM is available for pre-order for $2.699,00, making it noticeably more expensive than the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM ($1.849,00)
