DJI Osmo Pocket – Three-Axis Stabilized Compact Camera

DJI recently announced their tiny three-axis stabilized camera – The DJI Osmo Pocket, capable of taking 12MP photographs and record 4K video at 60fps.

The DJI Osmo Pocket is an extremely portable gimbal, in fact, weighing in at only 4.1 oz (116g) and 4.8” (122mm) in length it’s the smallest camera with three-axis mechanical gimbal ever made. It’s designed not only to be ultra portable, but also easy to use so videographers shouldn’t have to think twice about taking it along on video shoots.

The DJI Osmo Pocket records true 4K at 60fps and with its 12 megapixel camera, it also takes photographs. The gimbal camera has an integrated 1” touch screen display in the back to monitor the image and control the camera so users don’t need a phone to be able to monitor what they’re filming. Of course you have the possibility of attaching a mobile device in case you don’t want to use the tiny screen. There’s a universal port under the touch screen that allows videographers to connect their mobile devices via USB-C or iOS Lightning.

It uses dual microphones and advanced noise-cancelling algorithms to capture high quality audio. The built-in Li-Po battery (unfortunately not interchangeable) gives the camera operator up to two hours of battery life when shooting 4K video at 30fps. The new DJI Mimo App was also announced, it’s an all-in-one tool giving videographers full control of camera settings and allowing them to shoot, edit and share the videos captured.

There will also be plenty of accessories available such as a controller wheel, wireless module, extension rod, ND filter set and accessory mount only to name a few. The DJI Osmo Pocket also comes with a variety of creative features:

FPV Mode – Allows users to capture video footage from their perspective. Instead of locking the gimbal to maintain the horizon, FPV tells the camera to follow tilts and leans.

ActiveTrack – Image recognition algorithims allow the camera to recognize and follow subjects of choice.

FaceTrack – FaceTrack takes ActiveTrack one step further by using enhanced algorithms to automatically recognize a human face and lock the subject in the middle of the frame.

3×3 & 180° Panorama – DJI offers two panorama modes for capturing wide angle photographs. 3X3 takes 9 images in total while 180° mode captures 4 images. The photographs are then automatically stiched together by the Osmo Pocket software.

Timelapse & Motionlapse – Feature for capturing and speeding up footage, Motionlapse adds the dynamic feature of movement to the Timelapse video.
