Techart Releases World's First Autofocus Sony E-Mount to Nikon Z Lens Adapter
Chinese accessory manufacturer Techart has just released the world’s first Sony E to Nikon Z lens autofocus adapter, the TZE-01.
Tehcart, who in the past had already announced an autofocus adapter for manual lenses, used the 2mm difference in flange distance between Sony E and Nikon Z mount to create an extremely thin adapter. In this tiny space they managed to “squeeze in” connectors on both sides, including a PCB board with a chip to communicate/translate the protocol of the camera and lens.

This adapter allows camera operators and videographers who shoot with Nikon Z system cameras (a relatively new system with limited selection of lenses) to use Sony E-mount lenses. The TZE-01 supports AF-S and AF-C and comes with a lens dock for firmware updates.
At the moment the TZE-01 still doesn’t support Samyang/Rokinon lenses (popular choice among video shooters), however this might change in a future firmware update. Techart claims this adapter is still NOT perfect since it was developed in reverse engineering to make it compatible with all Sony E-mount lenses.

According to Techart, AF speed and accuracy is on par with using native Z mount lenses. Other functions such as lens vibration reduction, timelapse and lens-based image stabilization can also be used.
Some specs:
Support AF-S , AF-C , MF
Support Single-point AF, Wide-area AF (S/L), Auto-area AF
Support Image stabilisation of Sony lenses and Vibration Reduction of Nikon bodies
Support Face/Eye Detection AF
Correct EXIF data reading on camera/file
Phase-detect AF is being used to ensure the best AF performance
Firmware upgradable via a complimentary lens dock
Further stack the Techart PRO Leica M – Sony E AF Adapter to turn MF lenses to AF in Nikon Z6/Z7 cameras

The TZE-01 is available for pre-order at Techart’s official website for $249
